Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen Pickleball T-Shirt, Retirement Gift

The best pickleball retirement gifts help a new retiree play more and play better, now that they finally have the time: a lesson package, a camp, court time or a ball machine for a bigger group gift; court shoes, sport glasses or a real bag as a gear upgrade; and, for the retirement party, a card and something fun like a "Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen" mug or sweatshirt ($19 to $42). Coworkers chipping in can each give $10 to $25 and still buy something big. How we picked

We are a small US shop that prints pickleball shirts, hats, mugs, tote bags and towels, so some gifts here are ours, marked with our prices and links. Most are from other brands. We did not test the gear; we chose gifts for someone about to play three, four or five times a week, with prices we saw on retailer pages in October 2026. Prices change. Sources are at the end.

Retirement and pickleball go together for a lot of people: the courts are full on weekday mornings, and many players took up the game after they stopped working. If the retiree is also a grandparent, see our pickleball gifts for grandpa and grandma. Our shop's retirement items are all in pickleball retirement gifts.

Retirement gifts under $30 (good from one coworker)

1. PickleUpper Ball Pickup Tool ($14.95)

Fits on a paddle handle so they can pick up balls without bending. A kind gift for sore knees and backs.

2. Playful Pickleball Retirement Pop-Up Card and Sentiment Set ($15)

A pop-up card from Lovepop with a pickleball court scene. It was $15 on Lovepop's site, with $5 more to personalize it. A card the whole office can sign, next to a group gift.

3. Born to Rally Pickleball King Double-Sided Microfiber Towel ($18)

A towel for long mornings on a sunny court.

4. Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen mug ($19)

The kitchen is the no-volley zone by the net, and this is a line for the person who left the job and found the court. The Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen Pickleball Mug, 11 oz, Retirement Gift is $19, white ceramic, dishwasher and microwave safe.

5. Paddle Packed, Plans Cancelled mug ($19)

Now that there is no work calendar, the only plans left are the ones pickleball cancels. The Paddle Packed, Plans Cancelled Pickleball Mug, 11 oz is $19.

6. OS1st KS7 Performance Knee Sleeve ($24.99)

A compression knee sleeve in sizes S to 4XL, for someone about to play a lot more than before. Ask their size first.

7. Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen tee ($27)

The Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen Pickleball T-Shirt, Retirement Gift is a soft cotton Bella + Canvas 3001 tee, $27 in XS to XL ($29 to $33 in 2XL to 4XL). It is a casual tee for the party and the coffee after a game, not a sweat-wicking match shirt.

8. Score Calling Is My Cardio towel ($28)

For the retiree who calls the score for the whole court. The Score Calling Is My Cardio Pickleball Towel is 16 x 28 inches.

Retirement gifts from $30 to $100

9. A dozen outdoor balls ($31.99)

More games means more cracked balls. The Franklin X-40 Performance Outdoor Pickleballs 12-pack was $31.99 at PickleballCentral. Ask which ball their group uses.

10. Paddle Packed, Plans Cancelled hat ($32)

The Paddle Packed, Plans Cancelled Pickleball Hat, Embroidered is a cotton dad hat, one size with an adjustable strap. No size to guess.

11. Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen sweatshirt ($42)

Weekday morning games start cold for much of the year. The Retired From Work, Not From the Kitchen Pickleball Crewneck Sweatshirt, Retirement Gift is a Gildan 18000 crewneck in light pink, sand, sport grey and white, $42 in S to XL and a little more in bigger sizes.

12. Tennis Was a Phase sweatshirt ($42)

For the retiree who played tennis for decades and switched. The Tennis Was a Phase Pickleball Crewneck Sweatshirt, Gift for Tennis Players is $42.

13. Gearbox Vision Eyewear ($44.99)

Sport glasses with impact-resistant lenses. Balls come fast at the kitchen line, and eye protection is a caring gift for anyone playing every day.

14. Pickleball Ballport Mini ($49.99)

A ball pickup basket that holds 22 balls and stands on its handle. Good for a retiree who will practice serves alone on quiet weekday courts.

15. JOOLA Vision II Backpack ($59.95)

A backpack with paddle pockets and room for shoes, for someone who now goes to the court most days.

16. Born to Rally Pickleball Court Bag ($69.99)

A shoulder tote made for the court, with a pocket for two paddles.

17. A private lesson (about $85 an hour)

Playing more does not always mean playing better. A lesson or a package of lessons helps them improve. The Vail Recreation District listed private lessons at $85 an hour in 2026; prices vary by town. Ask their club or park about gift cards.

18. Onix Z5 Graphite paddle ($89.99)

For someone who has only played with a borrowed or wood paddle, or who plans to start in retirement. PickleballCentral named it the safe first real paddle in its October 2026 beginner guide. For someone who already plays a lot, skip the paddle unless they name the exact model.

19. CRBN Pivot Pickleball Glasses ($95)

Higher-end sport glasses made for pickleball.

Bigger retirement gifts (good for a group)

20. OS1st Plantar Fasciitis Recovery Kit ($99.99)

A practical gift for someone who has mentioned sore heels. Only if they have mentioned it.

21. Skechers Viper Court Pro 2.0 ($114.95)

Many new players start in running shoes, which are made for going forward, not side to side. Court shoes add side support. Get the size right, or give a gift card.

22. Court time or a club membership (about $16 an hour and up)

Weekday courts are the retiree's courts. Public indoor courts are often cheap; the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District in Oregon charged $16 an hour, or $14.50 for seniors, in fall 2026. A month or a season at a private club costs more but includes leagues and open play. Call the club and ask about a gift membership.

23. Rally Deluxe Portable Net System ($159.99)

A steel-frame portable net for the driveway, so the retiree can host games at home when the park is full.

24. A pickleball camp ($579 for 3 days)

A trip and a training week in one. One example: the Nike Adult Pickleball Camp at Sundial Beach Resort on Sanibel Island, Florida, listed $579 for three days (April 23 to 25, 2027) with 11 hours of court time. Hotel and travel are extra.

25. A ball machine ($849 to $1,119)

A ball machine feeds balls so they can drill on their own. The Pickleball Tutor Mini was $849 and the Pickleball Tutor Spin was $1,119 at PickleballCentral. A big gift for a big office collection: 45 coworkers at $25 each covers the Tutor Spin.

If they have not started playing yet

Some people retire and plan to start. For them, think beginner: a group clinic at the local park, two first paddles so they can play with a spouse (the Rally Tyro 2 Composite was $34.99 each in PickleballCentral's 2026 beginner guide), a 3-pack of outdoor balls, and a Toes Behind the Line Pickleball Hat, Embroidered ($32), named for the kitchen rule every new player hears in the first week. More in pickleball gifts for beginners.

What not to buy

  • Jokes about being old. "Over the hill" and rocking chair jokes are a gamble at a retirement party. A joke about their game or their new free time is safer.
  • A paddle they did not ask for. Players who play often care about weight, grip and feel.
  • A cheap paddle set for a serious player. Fine for a family, not for a 4.0.
  • Clothes or shoes in a guessed size. Mugs, hats, towels and bags have no size.
  • Lots of stuff for someone who is downsizing. Time on the court (lessons, a camp, court time) takes up no closet space.
  • A generic retirement gift with a pickleball sticker. Pick something a player would actually use or laugh at.
